Delta Electronics Thailand supports Thai stock market surge amid AI boom
This year, Thailand's stock market (SET Index) has been a highlight in Southeast Asia, with year-to-date returns soaring to nearly 23%. This strong rally stems from the global artificial intelligence (AI) investment boom, creating unprecedented opportunities for investors.
Delta Electronics Thailand's leap in growth
The main driver of Thailand's stock market this year comes from a single stock, Delta Electronics (Thailand) Public Company Limited (DELTA), a subsidiary of Taiwan's Delta Electronics in Thailand that specializes in power management systems for data centers supporting AI computing.
DELTA's share price has surged more than 80% this year, making it the first Thai company to break a market capitalization of 1 trillion baht (about US$30 billion). DELTA's scale is so large that it even exceeds the combined market value of Thailand's second- to fifth-largest companies.
In the MSCI ASEAN Index, DELTA is the region's second-largest company by market capitalization, behind only Singapore's DBS Bank (DBS).
A new view of the Thai stock market
Although Thailand does not have advanced chip makers like Taiwan or South Korea, investors are beginning to recognize Thailand's role in the supply chain for digital economy infrastructure.
Sufianti, a strategist at Industry Think Tank, said: "Thailand may not be a direct AI market, but its data centers, electronics industry, power management systems, and strong digital infrastructure offer investors a fresh perspective beyond tourism, banking, or domestic consumer goods."
Support from capacity expansion
Krungsri Securities analyst Suwat Sinsadok said DELTA "expanded capacity in time to meet the rising global demand for data centers," a result that is impressive.
Despite negative factors such as U.S. tariffs and conflicts in the Middle East, DELTA has beaten expectations every quarter over the past two years, and the trend may continue.
DELTA currently accounts for as much as 20% of the SET Index, double its level in 2025, reflecting its rapidly rising dominance.
Comparison with other Asian markets
Compared with South Korea and Taiwan, Asia's hottest stock markets, Thailand still has a lower weighting of tech stocks. In South Korea, SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics together account for more than 50% of the KOSPI Index; in Taiwan, TSMC accounts for more than 40% of the Taiwan Weighted Index.
By contrast, among Thailand's five largest stocks by market capitalization, DELTA is the only pure tech stock; the others include Advanced Info Service (AIS), PTT, Gulf Development, and Airports of Thailand (AOT).
Conclusion
DELTA's growth and the rise of Thailand's stock market show the opportunities brought by the AI boom. Although Thailand is not a leader in chip manufacturing, its role as part of the data center and digital infrastructure ecosystem has created significant value for investors.
However, investors should note the risk of excessive concentration in just a few stocks, especially DELTA's heavy weighting in the index. Diversifying investments and seeking other companies in the AI supply chain may be a better long-term choice.
