TRUE plunges 6.72%: Does the China Mobile stake-sale rumor affect fundamentals?
In afternoon trading on June 25, 2026, TRUE (True Corporation Public Company Limited) fell 6.72% in the Thai stock market.
Key Points (KEY POINTS)
- TRUE fell 6.72% in the afternoon of June 25.
- The main driver was unconfirmed news that China Mobile may be considering selling about 7-8% of its shares.
- CGS International (Thailand) said the selling pressure comes from external factors and does not affect the company's fundamentals.
- The reason it does not affect fundamentals is that TRUE's core management structure remains unchanged, and the business does not depend on China Mobile's management.
- Analysts believe the earnings outlook still has positive factors, and the pullback may be an opportunity for investors who can tolerate volatility to accumulate gradually.
Background: China Mobile's shareholding and board representation
Karn Hataisattha, CFA, at CGS International (Thailand), told Krungthep Turakij that TRUE weakened in midday trading because the market was circulating unconfirmed news that China Mobile might sell or exit its investment in TRUE. After checking with investor relations (IR), China Mobile currently holds about 7-8% of TRUE's shares and has one representative on the board, but is not directly involved in management operations.
Brokers' view: An external factor that does not change TRUE's fundamentals
However, the selling pressure this time mainly stems from external factors unrelated to the company's business fundamentals. TRUE's core management structure remains unchanged, and operations do not depend on China Mobile's management.
At the same time, Thailand's telecom sector remains growth-oriented overall: only two major players remain, AIS and TRUE, which helps reduce competitive intensity and supports long-term revenue stability.
Outlook: Positive earnings factors and staggered-buying advice
Looking at TRUE's future performance, several positive factors remain, including expectations that profit in 2Q/2569 will still be within a healthy range, ongoing cost-cutting plans, and dividend payments that should support the share price.
From an investment strategy perspective, if the share price falls sharply on the rumor, it could become a point for investors who can tolerate volatility to buy in stages. A staggered approach is recommended; however, investors with a lower risk tolerance should wait for a clear official statement from the company before making a decision.
